A Guide to Covid 19 testing at home

All Your Questions, how long it takes to get the result, what to do if the result is positive and whether this test is as accurate as the regular test are going to be answered soon!

The covid 19 testing at home is performed using a swab, based on technology that does not require testing in the laboratory and allows an answer within about 15 to 30 minutes.

What does the home test kit detect?

The home test kits are based on an antigen (foreign protein to the body) test, which detects fragments of viral proteins that trigger an immune response in the body. The test chemically detects the same proteins and labels them.

How is the Most Home Test Performed Different from PCR?

As most covid 19 testing at home doesn’t use PCR. Where a pen is inserted into each of the nostrils and rotated several times.

  • In the next step, the pen is placed in a test tube, while squeezing the swab so that protein particles from the virus, if any, remain in the test tube.
  • Now the swab is taken out of the test tube, thrown in the trash, and put the test strip in the test tube or test facility.
  • After 15 to 30 minutes, check the swab. If two stripes appear on it, one dark and the other light, a sign that the result is positive. If only one stripe appears – the result is negative. If no stripe appears, a sign that the test was not normal, and should be performed again.

These tests are not as accurate as PCR tests, but they may detect some cases of infection. According to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, anyone who is found positive should go into isolation immediately.
